This is not an open recruitment. Only employees who are already in permanent service in South Western Railway or RWF/YNK (Rail Wheel Factory, Yalahanka) will get promotion through GDCE (General Departmental Competitive Examination). Candidates from outside Railways, Freshers cannot apply.

South Western Railway GDCE Recruitment 2026 – Important Details

At the time of writing this article, the application link is not yet open. It is good to have the documents ready by November 9.

Complete details of recruitment

It is a departmental examination in which 25% of the posts of direct recruitment quota of Railways are filled by in-service employees. There will be initial training for the duration of direct recruitment for the selected candidates.

Selected candidates can be assigned to any department or unit of South Western Railway. The notification states that those who do not agree to the transfer need not apply. The number of posts is temporary and subject to change.

Details of posts

About 96% of the total posts are Goods Train Manager posts. JE categories have only 2 to 5 posts each. Disabled (PwBD) quota posts are not identified in this notification.

Qualification and service eligibility

Candidate must possess the required qualification as on the date of publication of notification (28 October 2026). Those who have written the final exam and are waiting for the result need not apply. Eligibility should be an entry in the Service Register/HRMS.

Who should not apply? Not in Railway service, RPF/RPSF personnel and Accounts Cadre employees are not eligible. There are different sources regarding the exclusion of certain categories from the notification. So check your category eligibility in the notification before applying.

Age limit

the age 1 January 2027 is calculated as Minimum age is 18 years.

Candidates from reserved category applying for General (UR) posts will not get age relaxation.

Salary Details

The notification states that the salary will be as per RRB direct recruitment rules. No specific pay level or initial basic pay is mentioned there. Payment for training period will be as per prevailing rules.

Selection process

Selection takes place in three stages.

1. Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT). Merit will be based on the marks of this exam.
2. Document verification of eligible candidates.
3. Medical examination.

Interview phase is not mentioned.

Goods Train Manager CBT: Total 100 questions, 100 marks, 90 minutes.

IS CBT: Total 150 questions, 150 marks, 120 minutes.

Segment wise allocation is indicative only. One third of the mark for that question will be deducted for wrong answer. Eligibility Minimum Marks UR 40%, OBC 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. The question paper will be in English. Kannada, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Konkani language options available. The language should be selected in the application itself. In case of difference, the English version is final.

Exam center, date and shift will be informed in the e-card.

Application fee

There is no application fee for any category. Beware of middlemen asking for money, promising jobs.

Necessary documents

• Recent photograph within one month (jpg/jpeg, within 5 MB, without hat or colored glasses) and signature.
• Degree/Diploma/Certificate of Completion (PDF).
• SSLC/Matriculation certificate or mark sheet showing date of birth.
• Active Mobile Number and Email ID (Information will come through SMS/Email).

Original educational and community certificates are required at the time of document verification. Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth should match SSLC Certificate and Service Record. Signatures should be identical in all documents.

Application Procedure

1. After 9 November 2026 www.rrchubli.in open up
2. Select the GDCE Application Portal link, read the “How to Apply” instructions.
3. Fill personal, service and educational details; Choose a job that matches your qualifications.
4. Upload photo, signature and certificates.
5. Check it all out in the preview. Amendments cannot be made after final submission.
6. Submit the application and take a printout of the copy. Officials will verify the application online.

One should submit only one application. There is risk of disqualification if more than one application is submitted. Apply early as the notification says that the deadline will not be extended even if the server is slow on the last day.
