Formula / Explanation
Age is calculated by finding the difference between the birth date and the reference date. The algorithm accounts for varying month lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days) and leap years. If the current day is less than the birth day, we borrow days from the previous month. If the current month is less than the birth month, we borrow 12 months from the year.
Worked Example
If you were born on March 15, 1995 and today is January 10, 2025:
Days: 10 - 15 = negative, so borrow from December (31 days) → 31 + 10 - 15 = 26 days, and month becomes December (12).
Months: 12 - 3 = 9 months.
Years: 2025 - 1995 - 1 = 29 years (borrowed 1 for the month calculation).
Result: 29 years, 9 months, 26 days.

How does the age calculator determine the exact age in years, months, and days?
It calculates the difference between your birth date and the reference date. It subtracts the day, then the month, then the year, borrowing from the previous unit when needed (e.g., borrowing days from the previous month which may have 28-31 days).
Does the age calculator account for leap years?
Yes. When borrowing days for the month calculation, it uses the actual number of days in the specific month. For example, if the reference month is March, it borrows 31 days from February only if it's a leap year (29 days), otherwise 28 days.
Is my date of birth stored or sent to a server?
No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your date of birth is never sent to any server, stored in any database, or shared with any third party.
Can I calculate my age at a future date?
Yes. Change the "Age as of" date to any future date to see how old you will be at that point. This is useful for retirement planning, milestone birthdays, etc.
