SCSP/TSP SchemeSC and ST candidatesLight (LMV) and Heavy Vehicle Training, one month
Collaboration with PM-Ajay, Directorate of MinoritiesMuslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi communityLight and heavy vehicle training, one month

That means it is not a scheme open to everyone. Each batch is dedicated to a particular community.

What type of driving training is offered?

LMV (Light Motor Vehicle): Driving light vehicles like car, jeep, van. This is the first step to becoming a cab driver, private driver or own vehicle driver.

HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle): Driving heavy vehicles like bus, lorry, truck. It is required for jobs in freight and passenger transport sector.

The main difference between the two is vehicle size, liability and licensing conditions. According to the General Motor Vehicle Regulations, a heavy vehicle license requires a higher age and light vehicle driving experience. Check it in your batch notification.

Who is eligible to apply?

Officially reported facts:

  • Candidate must be from Karnataka and belong to the community (SC, ST or Minority) of the respective batch.
  • Age limit for minority batch is 18 to 45 years and must have passed SSLC, it is reported.
  • Minority batch reports mention “young/young women” which means women can also apply.

Points to check:

  • Educational qualification of SC/ST batch.
  • Minimum age for heavy vehicle training. Some sources say 20 years, others 21 years. This may vary depending on the batch.
  • Whether a valid LMV license is required for heavy vehicle training. Many reports say it is wanted, but I have not been able to see an official notification.

Do not assume that the same conditions as the previous batch will apply to the new batch of 2026.

What are the benefits of free driving training?

Facilities available as per reports:

  • One month completely free training.
  • Free food and accommodation during the training period (Mentioned in reports of Minority and SC batches).
  • Opportunity to get driving license through transport department.
  • Facilitate job search in transport, freight and private driver jobs.

A report said allowance during training period and preference in KSRTC recruitment. It is not included here as it has not been confirmed by any other report.

Documents required to apply for training

As the document list of the notification is not available, below are the documents generally required for such projects. Check the exact list of your batch on the application page once.

What are KSRTC Driving Training Centers?

The five centers most frequently mentioned in the reports are:

  • Malur (Kolar District)
  • Malavalli (Mandya District)
  • Hassan
  • Chikmagalur
  • Holalkere (Chitradurga District)

The contact numbers of these centers are different in different batches of reports. Don’t trust the old numbers, call the current number on the portal and find out which center and which batch your district has.

Duration of Training and Selection Process

Duration: Reportedly one month continuous, including theory and practical training.

Selection Process: No further details (Written Test, Merit, Seat Number) have been published except that the eligible candidates will be selected after scrutiny of applications.

Can I get a government job after training?

No, not sure. It is a skill training and licensing scheme, not a recruitment scheme. If you want the driver post in KSRTC then you have to apply for the recruitment notification published separately by the corporation and participate in the selection process. But having a valid license makes it easier to find a job in the private transport and freight sectors.
