SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination is conducted in two tiers, each consisting of objective multiple-choice questions.

Tier-I Examination

Exam Pattern:

  • Type: Objective Multiple Choice
  • Duration: 1 hour (1 hour and 20 minutes for eligible candidates for scribe)
  • Sections and Marks:

Note:

  • The questions will be set in both English and Hindi, except for the English Comprehension section.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer.

Tier-II Examination

Exam Pattern:

  • Type: Objective Multiple Choice
  • Papers:
    • Paper-I: Compulsory for all posts
    • Paper-II: For candidates applying for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade-II
    • Paper-III: Conducted on separate shifts/days

Note:

  • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions on the same day.
  • Section-I and Section-II will be completed in two separate hours with an automatic closure of each section after the allotted time.
  • Section-III, Module-I (Computer Knowledge Test) will follow Section-II and last for 15 minutes.
  • There will be a break for re-registration before the 15-minute Session-II for Module-II (Data Entry Speed Test).

General Notes:

  • Paper-I is compulsory for all posts.
  • Paper-II is for those applying for JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade-II.
  • Negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-I (except for Data Entry Speed Test) and 0.50 marks in Paper-II.
  • The Computer Knowledge Test is qualifying but mandatory.
  • The Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) will be conducted for 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes and is mandatory for all posts but qualifying in nature.
